David Fox: Urban Fingerprint

David Fox: Urban Fingerprint | Saturday 10 May – Sunday 8 June 2025 | GOMA Gallery of Modern Art | Image: painting of graffitied walls, probably around the Grand Canal Dock area of Dublin; wet day, with walls reflected in concrete path / roadway; on the right we see two graffiti works, the one farther away from us just a jumble of letter shapes in white against a pinkish background, the one nearer us seems to be a combination of a tag and facial features of a long-lashed, glasses-wearing person – of whom we see only eyes, nose, and some mouth – looking back at us
Opening Reception Saturday 10 May, 6 – 8pm

GOMA Gallery of Modern Art in Waterford City are thrilled to announce the launch of Urban Fingerprint, a solo exhibition by artist David Fox, opening on Saturday 10th May 6–8pm. This captivating exhibition delves into the relationship between urban spaces and personal identity, showcasing Fox’s innovative approach to contemporary art.

David Fox has become renowned for his compelling connection with the contemporary Irish landscape, where in recent work he captures the vibrant essence of graffiti within the bustling cities of Ireland. Working primarily with oil paints, Fox brings these walls and alleys to life on canvas, transforming the often-overlooked art of graffiti into evocative pieces that resonate with a modern audience. His paintings are not merely visual explorations but rather profound dialogues with the culture, identity and rebellion found within the urban environment.

Through meticulous attention to detail and a nuanced understanding of colour and form, Fox’s works serve as a testament to the hidden beauty and enduring spirit of street art, weaving a tangible connection between the everyday and the extraordinary. His collection is a love letter to the streets, a celebration of the unspoken, and a compelling journey through contemporary Ireland’s visual voice.

Opening Reception: Join us for the official opening of this exhibition (Saturday 10th May 6–8pm)  where you will have the opportunity to meet David Fox and hear about his creative process and inspirations behind Urban Fingerprint. Street artist and muralist Magda Karol will be the guest speaker on the night. As always, our exhibitions are free of charge and open for all the public to attend.
