Yvonne Cullivan: In the Current

Yvonne Cullivan: In the Current | Friday 19 September – Sunday 5 October 2014 | Library and Civic Centre

Launch on Culture Night, Friday 19 September, 7:30 – 9pm

In the Current consists of eight short films produced by the artist following a period of research and sustained engagement with residents and specialists from the Belturbet area.

Drawing on aspects of local historical and contemporary culture and grounded in the physical fabric of the landscape, these sensory films blur the lines of fact and fiction, reality and the imagined, carrying information from peripheral locations, via the airwaves, through the water, in the ground, and across layers of time.

The project was commissioned under the Per Cent for Art Scheme with Cavan County Council, funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

The launch will include a reading by poet Tom Conaty of Field Notes, a poem written in response to the films. A bespoke App, designed to house the project, will also be launched on the night. The App will contain the eight films, contextual information, essays, Field Notes, community links and project details.
