Work in Progress – Fine Art research in CCAD
Following last June’s successful MA by Research graduating exhibition, CCAD’s Wandesford Quay gallery will host a ‘research event’ involving four Masters by Research students from the 13th to the 24th October. The event is not an exhibition as such but is rather a series of engagements and interactions which form an integral part of the MA students’ research process and is based around a negotiated display of their ‘work in progress’.
The event provides an opportunity for the artist/researchers to engage with other students, college staff, research experts and members of the public to challenge and investigate ways in which their research activities can be interpreted, tested, challenged and informed. The event is designed to be experimental but focuses on key skills such as interaction, negotiation, cooperation, debate and presentation. It is primarily an exploratory process allowing each participant – student researcher, supervisor, artist/researchers and members of the public to engage in a process of open enquiry, investigation and response. The organising group of supervisors see this event enabling the Masters researchers to harness the combined knowledge and experience of all participants to assist in developing both their individual research practice and in questioning the broader context of practice based research in Fine Art. It provides members of the public with a unique opportunity to engage, directly or indirectly in artistic enquiry at a post-graduate level.
The gallery space will be open to the public from Wednesdays to Saturdays from the 13th to the 24th October. A schedule of events including public presentations by the MA researchers will be posted in the space.
