The work of renowned international and Irish artists will come to Galway, Ireland this November as part of Tulca Festival of Visual Arts 2011. Works by Amie Siegel, and Lia Perjovschi will be exhibited, with site-specific works by New York’s Gregory Sholette and Nikolay Oleynikov of Russian collective Chto Delat? Among many of the Irish artists exhibiting are Jesse Jones, Seamus Nolan and Gareth Kennedy. Tulca 2011 – ‘After the fall’ will examine aspects of the recent fall-out in Ireland and internationally, by addressing artist responses to political, social and economic collapse. ‘After the fall’ will also consider re-imaginings of the future, in the wake of these collapses.

Fesitval highlights include Gregory Sholette’s collaboration with Galway’s artist-run Gallery 126. Working with a team of local and international artists, Sholette will re-visit the concept of the Imaginary Archive. Taking an unusual bookstore that stood inside the George Washington Bridge bus transfer station in Manhattan as his inspiration, Sholette’s ‘Imaginary Archive’ will consist of a heterogeneous collection of real and fictional printed material that record a past whose future never arrived.

Tulca are delighted to bring the work of Russian collective, Chto Delat? (What is to be done?) to Ireland for the first time. Museum Songspiel: The Netherlands 20XX is a film work by Chto Delat?, set against the background of Dutch politics in the year 20XX. Museum Songspiel: The Netherlands 20XX will be screened in the Tulca Festival Gallery, where Nikolay Oleynikov of Chto Delat? will also create a site-specific installation for the Festival.

Leading Romanian contemporary artist Lia Perjovschi’s ‘Subjective Art History,’ is an extensive series of reproduced images and text dating from Modernism to the present day, made up of three interconnected stems: “Time line general”, “Time line on Romanian culture” and “My time line”, edited and re-edited over the last fifteen years. Perjovschi’s work will be exhibited in The James Hardiman Library in the National University of Ireland, Galway, throughout the Festival.

A packed programme of talks, discussions and workshops will also run throughout the Festival. On November 16, Tulca’s renowned Live @ 8 series presents ‘The Perspectives, Part 1 – The Scope of Political Practices of Moving Images Today,’ a screening programme of video artworks, films and video performances selected by

the Artist and Curator from Belgrade Vladan Jeremić.
