SHOW – NCAD Evening Students Art Exhibition
It’s never too late to start your Creative Journey.
An exhibition containing hundreds of Artworks opens on Friday 5 July on the campus of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD).
However, this work has not been produced by the colleges day students, but instead by over three hundred part time evening students who take over the campus at night as part of the Continuing education in Art and Design(CEAD) courses provided at the college.
In our fast-paced, digital world, it’s easy to become disconnected from the world around us and a lot of adults, are increasingly turning to art classes as a way to reconnect, express themselves, and improve their quality of life.
The evening students are a diverse bunch of people coming from many different backgrounds. You might find yourself working alongside accomplished artists developing new skills or high powered professionals who find Art a wonderful way to destress after a busy day on the corporate roller-coaster. Indeed, Art classes can offer numerous benefits to all adults from stress relief and boosted creativity to improved communication and motor skills.
Demand for courses has grown since the pandemic and some courses that ran once a week now run twice to cater for demand. As well as traditional painting and drawing students can also study Ceramics, Sculpture, Stained Glass, Photography, Jewellery and even Creative Embroidery among others. The standard of tutors is high with many already accomplished artists in their own right.
The NCAD Evening Students Art Exhibition is run by the colleges evening students union and has become a highlight of the year for the many students who get to exhibit their work to family, friends and the general public, some for the first time.
The courses also provide a great access route for those who never got a chance to attend Art college. Typically, a CEAD student might start with a summer short course or
an autumn evening non-credit course. They may then choose to progress and achieve Certificates and Higher Diplomas, with some eventually swopping into full time day courses. There are also a number of part time Masters programmes on offer.
This exhibition is a definite must for anyone who has ever considered taking the plunge into the creative arts, or for those looking to pick up a piece of reasonably priced Art. Remember……It’s never too late to start your creative journey.
