Shona Shirley MacDonald: Juniper
Cuirt International Festival of Literature presents ‘Juniper’ a solo exhibition by artist and illustrator Shona Shirley MacDonald. Originally from Aberdeen, MacDonald is now based in Waterford. She is a graduate of Edinburgh college of art, where she specialised in animation. Recent exhibitions include Riverbank Arts Centre and Carlow County Library. Her illustration work has been published in Irish language and Scots-Gaelic magazines and books. The artist also has an online design shop called Mireog which sells cards and t-shirts in Irish (and other Celtic languages) with the aim of promoting the languages.
MacDonald has been specially commissioned by Cúirt to transform Galway Arts Centre into a real-life version of her artworks for Cúirt Labs, the Festival’s programme for Children and young people. Throughout the week of the festival, primary and post-primary students will have workshops with writers, artists, musicians, actors and circus performers.
