Shea Dalton: Light Drinks
Shea Dalton’s works for the RHA Ashford Gallery are the outcome of his research into the assimilation and recontextualisation of images or motifs, of ideas and influences, that create a fragile nexus of meaning which holds the work together.
These modestly sized abstractions are an absorption of post minimalism and expressionism, but ultimately become neither of these things. Each painting attempts to have its own scale, light and composition. His methodology is organic, where each artwork emerges from the condition of its own creation, searching for a colour pitch in the painting, expressing a certain kind of opaque emotional tone and light.
Shea Dalton was born in 1979. He is a practicing artist currently based in the Backwater Studios, Cork. He graduated with his BFA from the Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork in 2003 and his MFA from the National College of Art & Design, Dublin in 2006. He has exhibited in group and solo shows in Ireland, Iceland, Sweden, the Netherlands and Canada. He recently completed a six month residency in Konstepidemin Arts and Cultural Centre, Gothenborg, Sweden and exhibited in group shows at the Rua Red, Dublin, in the Cairde Visual at the Niland, Sligo and in the Rymd Gallery, Reykjavik, Iceland.
