Catherine Creaney, Stephen Johnston, Kyle Barnes & Gordon Harris
Gormleys Fine Art are proud to present an exhibition of new works by four of Ireland’s most promising contemporary figurative painters; Catherine Creaney, Stephen Johnston, Kyle Barnes and Gordon Harris. While each artist has their own avant-garde approach to figurative painting, all capture the true expression and emotion of their subject, while creating dialogue with the viewer and addressing issues concerning modern society.
Stephen Johnston’s work explores the relationship between our humanity, changing culture, and the link between them. Johnston’s work has been selected for display at the Saatchi Gallery in London and he has won a numerous awards including the Diageo Emerging Artist Award, The Towry Award in 2012 and The DeVeres Award at the RHA in 2012.
Kyle Barnes has won the Towry prize at the National Open Art Competition along with the KPMG Young Artist Award at the RUA in 2014. Barnes is inspired by our perception of, and our interaction with each other through visual identity.
Catherine Creaney recently received the ESB Keating Award for outstanding artwork at the RHA. Her work focuses on exploring the transient nature of human expressions and the effects of light upon the human form.
Gordon Harris is a figurative artist with superb technique. He infuses a harmony between the natural and the conceptual to create works that are provocative and dramatic. He looks beyond the persona to the character and can creatively portray the soul of the subject he paints. In 2013 he had a sell out solo show in Ireland and in 2014 his work was selected for the annual RHA exhibition.
This unique collection of work unites these four artists through their style and surreal figurative contexts.
