Saturday 26 July from 2pm • Anne Seagrave • Debbie Guinnane • Fergus Byrne
Self-Made is an exhibition of live performance, focuses on the physicality of the body, looking at the body as form sculpted through daily life practices. The Crawford Art Galleries’ Sculpture Galleries are an apt site for reframing contemporary questions around the body in an art historical context, since such current questions are part of an age-old investigation into the figurative in art making. Self-Made is part of the Avant Festival, July 10 – 31.
The artists Anne Seagrave, Fergus Byrne and Debbie Guinnane will each perform amongst Greco-Roman sculpture casts made circa 1816 by Canova from originals in the Vatican Museum. Each of the artists in the show will perform their work themselves allowing their physical presence to remain within their finished work.
