Ruth E Lyons: The Forgotten Works
Black, bright and amorphous, Ruth E. Lyons’ major new public commission, The Forgotten Works will emerge from the exterior facade of Project Arts Centre over a number of weeks. A shape-shifter by day and an imploding mass by night, Lyons’ large-scale timber construction will creep across the building, a moving mass of bitumen-coated struts clambering from the balcony towards the street below.
Lyons’ installation is a work in conflict: a generative and destructive force, an entanglement of darkness and light, and a conjuring of form without form. As an in-between space, it is both a beginning and an end, and a non-space from which matter seems to rise.
The Forgotten Works will continue to evolve from 20 August until 20 October.
Ruth E. Lyons’ new installation, The Forgotten Works is curated by Tessa Giblin, has been commissioned and produced by Project Arts Centre, and is generously supported by a Project Award from the Arts Council.
