Robin Price has developed the feline mobile disco, a hedonistic, digital interactive installation especially for cats. It dispenses catnip from a glitter ball while playing cat music and blue-tit videos, firing moving laser beams and uploads videos of the cats that engage with it. Building on his early visual practice in raves and creative electronics, this new work plays with the idea of how easily algorithms and social media can manipulate us all into sharing our lives with an unknown audience. It imagines a fictionalised world where cats are taking over the internet, one like at a time, motivated by the promise of narcissism, easy stimulation and instant gratification.
