Phil Collins: The Unfortunate Thing Between us
In association with the Corona Cork Film Festival • Opening Reception Friday 16 November at 6:30pm
TUTBU 01 / Fri 16th / 19:00pm – 12:00am
TUTBU 02 / Sat 17th / 19:00pm – 12:00am
Originally presented in 2011 at the Hebbel am Ufer theatre in Berlin and on German public television, This Unfortunate Thing Between Us consisted of two live broadcasts in which instead of commodities the viewers were offered a choice of experiences at promotional prices.
Hosted by a crew of actors and porn workers, and featuring live music by Welsh musician Gruff Rhys and North Wales surf band Y Niwl, This Unfortunate Thing Between Us follows the logic and grammar of the teleshopping channel, including pitches, sales and phone–ins. Providing an opportunity to face up to our contemporary desires and fears, TUTBU TV brings together a live audience and home viewers in what may well prove to be a glimpse into the future of consumerism.
The National Sculpture Factory will be screening the first of Collins’ live TV broadcast of TUTBU 01 – This Unfortunate Thing Between Us on Friday 16th from 19:00pm till midnight and this will be followed by TUTBU 02 – This Unfortunate Thing Between Us on Saturday17th which will also run from 19:00pm till midnight. Each of the two distinct segments for This Unfortunate Thing Between Us is approximately one hour long and will be run on a loop each evening beginning at 19:00pm.
Phil will be attending the launch.
