Peer
Peer is an exhibition of Backwater Artists Group studio members’ work. The title refers to both this group studio environment, which the work originates from, and to the democratic process that was used for selecting the work for the exhibition. Each artist had a vote on all the pieces submitted for the exhibition.
Participating artists: Fionnuala Kelly, John Kent, Eileen Healy, Darn Thorn, Cassandra Eustace and Megan Eustace, Susanne Leutenegger, Lynn Marie Dennehy, Luke Sisk, Gary Kearney, Ben Reilly, David Barrett, Donna Mc Namara, Roisín Lewis, Helen Horgan, Angie Shanahan, Éilis Ní Fhaoláin, Helen O ‘Keeffe, Lorraine Cooke, Johnny Bugler, Tracy Fitzgerald, Séan Hanrahan, Ciarán Cronin, Lucy Buckley, Norma Walsh, Kevin Holland and Peter Martin.
The action ‘to peer’, as in looking closely whether at an object or an idea, is the basis for artists’ practice. The cross section of work in the show highlights how differently each artist moves from this point using different marks or materials in order to essentially define their place in the world.
Emerging from a year of uncertainty due to unforeseen funding issues, Backwater Artist Group is now back on track. Following the success of the DRAW fundraising event in April, Backwater Artists Group are happy to present a selection of new work from 27 current studio members.
Artist and former BAG member, Suzy O’Mullane will open the exhibition on Thursday 2 June at 6.30pm.
