Paul Hallahan: Running, Returning, Running

Paul Hallahan: Running, Returning, Running | from Saturday 3 October 2020 | Roscommon Arts Centre
――― Reopened ―――

Running, Returning, Running is an exhibition of new paintings and a sound piece. The paintings are based on source material of an undisclosed walk taken regularly by the artist nearly daily for ten years. Hallahan looked in detail at the mundane and attempted to see past first glances and be engulfed by the world around him on a daily basis. The exhibition also has a sound work made in collaboration with based composer and musician Joseph Harney. A question of how to visualise a version of a palindrome through paintings and a sound work guides the exhibitions intent for the artist.

Paul Hallahan is an artist living and working in Dublin. His work is primarily based in painting, sculpture and video and interests within his work expand into many areas but commonly focus on how we as a species relate and interact with nature, taking art as a form or by-product of nature and our civilization. He has exhibited widely over the past ten years and in 2018 he won the Golden Fleece Award. In recent years he has had solo exhibitions at the Royal Hibernian Academy, The Lab (Dublin), Berlin Opticians Gallery and in 2019 he was part of a two-person exhibition that was shown in the Lexicon Gallery Dublin, Garter Lane Gallery Waterford, Sternview Gallery Cork, Platform Arts Belfast. His work is part of the collections of DLR County Council, Industrial Development Agency Ireland (IDA), Trinity College Dublin, The Office of Public Works, Waterford City Collection and numerous private collections.

Paul Hallahan was selected via The Open Call 2020.
