Patricia Burns: The Glen Paintings
“These paintings carry an awesome authority, taken from their prehistory. Two centuries of Cork life is folded beneath these brooding winter skies”. So says poet Thomas McCarthy in his essay on the publication to accompany this remarkable exhibition of paintings by Patricia Burns, her first solo show at Triskel.
Created in Cork’s north side suburb “The Glen”, the paintings are a series of works which depict the suburban landscape in Winter light. Patricia Burns was born in Dublin and graduated from DIT in 1986. She has shown at Ashford Gallery (RHA) in Dublin, in Cork at the much missed Vanguard Gallery, and at several Arts Centres throughout the country. Her work is included in the collections of, among others, AIB Group, AXA Insurance, Ballinglen Arts Foundation, and NUI Galway, as well as private collections. Patricia Burns lives and works in Cork.
