Paint The Town Red | Thursday 5 January – Thursday 19 January 2017 | Garter Lane Arts Centre

Explore the unique relationship Red Kettle Theatre Company forged with Waterford through an exhibition of archival artefacts and film in Garter Lane Arts Centre, with support from Waterford Institute of Technology.

Red Kettle Theatre Company was founded in Waterford in 1985 and operated in the city until its closure in 2014. The company’s legacy survives in the extensive archive that was assembled throughout its twenty-nine years in existence and is currently housed in the Luke Wadding Library in WIT. In 2013, Red Kettle and its archive became the doctoral research project of Elizabeth Howard, a performer, director and researcher, originally from Tramore. Elizabeth worked with the archive’s gatekeeper and WIT Librarian, Kieran Cronin, to assemble an exhibition of archival material which reflects and celebrates Red Kettle’s intimate and unique relationship with Waterford.

In addition to printed artefacts such as photographs, letters and posters, the exhibition includes a film which features the recollections of people who were instrumental in Red Kettle’s development.
