The Irish Museum of Modern Art is delighted to reopen its main building with an exciting weekend of fun activities and events for all ages. Join us on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October to celebrate – get your dancing shoes on for our 1920s Tea Dance in the magnificent 17th-century Great Hall; drop in to our pop-up exhibition for families Action all Areas; enjoy a dance and drawing workshop for young children; and don’t miss our line-up of lively talks by curators and artists over the weekend.

In Conversation: James Lingwood and Declan McGongale, The Chapel

In the context of the exhibition One Foot in the Real World, James Lingwood (Co-Director of Artangel) and Declan McGonagle (Director, NCAD and former Director, IMMA) discuss the history and significance of establishing the IMMA Collection.

Private view and opening reception

Exhibition opening of Eileen Gray Architect Designer Painter and the reopening of the main building at IMMA alongside the opening of three other exhibitions – In The Line of Beauty presenting the work of an exciting group of young Irish artists; The Myth of Progress an exhibition by Swedish-born artist Klara Lidén and One Foot in the Real World presenting iconic site-specific installations from IMMA’s Collection.

Official launch by Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and Alfred Pacquement, Director of the musée national d’art moderne / Centre Pompidou, in the presence of the French Ambassador to Ireland.

Action all Areas – Family Exhibition

Running over two weeks, Action all Areas is an exhibition which provides a unique opportunity to experience artworks that have been selected for a family audience combined with complementary activities and resources. This is a space where everyone is welcome to talk, interact and reflect. Artists included are Rhona Byrne, Janine Davidson, Colm Eccles, Priscila Fernandes, Antony Gormley, Rebecca Horn, Richard Long, Christine Mackey, Alice Maher, and Seoidín O’Sullivan and Karol O’Mahony.

Join nine young Irish artists who will talk about their work featured in the exhibition In the Line of Beauty. Reflecting on exhibition themes of objecthood, aesthetics and the spatial experience of the museum, informal presentations will be given by artists David Beattie, Oisín Byrne, Aleana Egan, Fiona Hallinan, Sam Keogh, Ciarán Murphy, Lisa Maria Murphy, Joseph Noonan-Ganley and Ciarán Walsh. This talk is introduced and chaired by Francis Halsall (Lecturer, MA, Art in the Contemporary World, NCAD).
