Oisín Tozer: A Fragile Line | Thursday 26 February – Saturday 11 April 2026 | The LAB | Image: photo; a navy-ish blue surface with vertical cuts in it, revealing a cream-white subsurface; the cuts look as though they were made by a lino- or wood-cutting tool; almost all are vertical, some shorter some longer, thicker, etc.

Curated by Margarita Cappock

A Fragile Line is an exhibition comprised of a number of interrelated pictorial, sculptural and installation elements. The work is visually spare and delicate, acting as a set of poetic observations on how we understand and relate to the more than human world.

The largest work created for the space is a carved image of Brassica Juncea. Brassica Juncea is a plant used to cleanse polluted soil, and its entanglement with human activity is referenced through mark-making consisting of straight lines, both delicate and violent. Line recurs throughout the exhibition, as a means to consider materiality and time across a range of artworks.

These works implicate further ecological, philosophical and art historical references, questioning distinctions between nature, culture and technology.

Oisín Tozer is an artist based in Ireland. Tozer’s practice draws upon materials, media, and mechanisms of display to investigate how we understand and relate to the world, particularly to nature.

Tozer develops discrete works that form interdependent relationships, culminating in visually spare, site-responsive installations.

Tozer graduated from technological university Dublin in 2023. Recent solo exhibitions include “A Brightness at the Edge of Things” Apsara studio, London. Recent Group exhibitions include “Earthly Delights” Green on Red Gallery “Right here, Right now” Rua Red, Tallaght and “Daisy Daisy” at The Complex Gallery.

Special thanks to Margarita Cappock, Clara McSweeney and all the staff at the LAB Gallery. Thank you to Niamh Darling for her thoughtful response to the work. The artist would also like to thank Richmond road studios, Fernando Sanchez, Roise McGagh, and Liz Longworth
