Participants are required to bring their own images and laptops with Photoshop installed. Harry Moore is a Cork based artist and educator. He began his education in Northern Territory, Australia and completed it in London between the Chelsea College of Arts and the Slade School of Fine Art. His artistic practice is based predominantly in photography with a specialisation in pinhole photography and sound performances and composition. He was previously a lecturer in Photography at St. John’s College in Cork for 15 years; was on the board of directors at the Sirius Arts Centre for 10 years; and was director of Art Trail for 5 years. Currently Harry is exhibiting/performing in sound composition, performance and photography. He is presently collaborating with Irish poet Kathy D’Arcy contributing to the narrative, sound and image on the Himalayan Diaries project, “Sagarmatha”.

Workshop Description
Artists are often unclear about the nature and extent of copyright in their works, and consequently find it difficult to assert their rights, and especially to negotiate suitable terms about ownership or licensing of copyright, in contracts involving the use of the works. This workshop will provide the copyright “basics” for artists. It will also explain what an artist needs to know about contracts and commission documents, and aims to strengthen the ability of the participants to negotiate confidently in relation to their rights when entering into agreements regarding the use of their works.

* Artists need to book these sessions in advance, as they are only open to course participants and are on a first come first serve basis. Brenda Tobin is a Freelance Solicitor with particular expertise in copyright and intellectual property work. She worked for nine years in RTÉ as part of their in-house legal team, dealing with all aspects of copyright and acquisition and distribution of content. Her final position there was lawyer with RTÉ Digital. Previously, roles included Production Lawyer dealing with rights in RTÉ Television and working in the central legal department, which involved, among other duties, content clearance advice. Before joining the Irish national broadcaster, she set up and ran a copyright unit at Thompsons’ Solicitors in London, where she represented the NUJ, sat on the NUJ Copyright Committee and was involved in High Court Litigation.

Workshop Description
This ½ day course will cover all aspects of delivering an art project, from research to funding to pitfalls that artists should avoid. It is aimed at practicing artists who are considering initiating a major project in the public realm – be that an exhibition, commission or competition. It will be an interactive course with participants expected to contribute to the session, based around projects they are considering or have recently completed. At the end of the course, artists can have short one-to-one session with Eamonn Maxwell around some of the areas covered. Eamonn Maxwell, originally from Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland, was, until December 2016, Director of Lismore Castle Arts and now works as a Curator and Cultural Consultant. Since graduating from Camberwell College of Arts, Maxwell has been involved in over 60 exhibitions in UK, Ireland and Europe, including curating the Irish Pavilion at 2011 Venice Biennale. Whilst he was Curator at University of the Arts, London he founded the unique Emerging Artists Programme which helped to give many new artists important exposure to their practice. Aside from working with many international artists, he has also advised some of the leading collectors of contemporary art and has expertise as a board member for not-for-profit organisations. Maxwell has a growing media profile and he continues to be a passionate advocate of emerging artists, especially those from Ireland.

Workshop Description
A task-based, workshop covering the fundamentals of good project management – planning, development, resourcing, risk assessment, communications, operations and review. Karen will draw on over 15years experience delivering small and large-scale art projects in Ireland and abroad. Karen Downey is an Independent Arts Consultant. In 2015/16 she was Project Manager for ART: 2016, the Arts Council’s programme as part of Ireland 2016. She worked as Curator at Belfast Exposed between 2000 and 2015 and curated Northern Ireland: 30 Years of Photography at Belfast Exposed and The MAC in 2013. In 2009 she curated Northern Ireland’s presentation at the 53rd Venice Art Biennale, and in 2012 she was Lead Curator and Editor for Into the Light: The Arts Council – 60 Years of Supporting the Arts. She is a Board Member of Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
