Gerry Davis, Paddy Critchley and Stephen Murphy: Night Painting
Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to present Night Painting as our summer exhibition 2023. The exhibition includes the work of three Limerick-based artists: Gerry Davis, Paddy Critchley and Stephen Murphy.
While the three artists have very individual styles they all share a common interest in painting. The artists decided on the enigmatic title of the show, Night Painting, as due to a range of commitments much of their painting is a nocturnal activity.
Night Painting reveals unlikely synergies between the work of these three male artists, two born in Ireland in the 1980s, one in the 1990s. They are making art at a time of great change – but then, has there ever been a time when there is not? For each, it is art about pushing against the past, working with eyes wide open, and looking towards the edges in order to reach for something new.

A booklet will accompany the exhibition with an essay by Cristín Leach.
