Niall de Buitléar: Out of Order
Preview Thursday 7 July 6-8pm
Out of Order is the fourth solo exhibition by Niall de Buitlear and his second at the LAB. The exhibition will feature a large series of small-scale paper sculptures and a complimentary series of drawings. The artist has employed a loose system based on a three by three grid of circles to generate a family of forms. Although the work is based on a geometric structure it has an organic, hand-made quality. These works have developed from previous large-scale cardboard sculptures recently exhibited at the RHA and the Wexford Arts Centre.
Niall de Buitléar was born in 1983 in Dublin and graduated with a Degree in Fine Art in 2006 from the Dublin Institute of Technology. He is currently based at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, Dublin. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at the Wexford Arts Centre; 126, Galway; and The LAB, Dublin. He has participated in two-person exhibitions at Wexford Arts Centre and Queen Street Studios, Belfast. His work has been included in many group exhibitions including Futures 10, RHA, Dublin, 2010; Material Worlds: Contemporary Sculpture from Ireland and the UK, FE McWilliam Gallery, Banbridge, 2010; Dawning of an Aspect, Green on Red Gallery, Dublin 2009; Bookish: When Books Become Art, Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork, 2008; and An Exhibition In 5 Chapters, Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius, 2007. He was the 2009-2010 winner of both the Red Stables Irish Residential Studio Award and the Wexford Arts Centre’s Emerging Visual Artist’s Award.
