Mary Conroy: Mussels: A Magic Moving Living Thing
Monday 22 August – Friday 14 October 2022
This artist-led project by Mary Conroy aims to build communities and connections with the River Nore, whilst trying to understand the non-human histories of Kilkenny City. One such history is that of a unique species of freshwater mussel known as Margaritifera Durrowvensis, an animal that was once abundant but is now functionally extinct in the River Nore.
This installation of ceramic mussels in the archaeology garden is the result of a series of workshops and events, which brought people together to make art and to raise awareness of the magic, moving, living things that are our rivers and all the creatures that call them home.
