For Sediment, Neudecker will present some key-pieces taking the visitors through various strands of her practice. This ranges from early map works, the “Plastic Vanitas” Still Life series, Deep-Sea and Arctic projects, including a new 2-dimensional and new tank work specially commissioned for the exhibition.  Harking back to the motifs, themes and aesthetics of Romanticism and the Sublime, her series of tank works contains sculptures of the natural world both nourished and mummified by the liquids in which they are preserved.  In promoting her enquiry into the relationship between the actual and the mediated, she keeps returning to looking at landscape traditions in art, dealing simultaneously with questions around technology, science, changes to our environment, collective experiences and time.

Mariele Neudecker was born in Germany and studied art in Germany, Ireland and the UK.  She now lives and works in Bristol.  This is her first major solo exhibition in an Irish cultural institution and will include works from the ’90s up the recent past as well as new commissions, made especially for LCGA.

Solo exhibitions include the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; Tate Britain and St Ives; the Kunstmuseum Tronheim, Norway. Neudecker has also shown widely in international group exhibitions.

Neudecker is Professor and Research Fellow at Bath Spa University, Fellow for CERN’s Visiting Arts Programme and works on the European Commission’s JRC Science and Art advisory panel.

Neudecker is represented by Galrie Barbara Thumm, Berlin, Thoms Rehbein Galerie, Cologen, Galerie In Camera, Paris and Galeria Pedro Cera, Lisbon.
