Maeve Clancy : Paper Quays | Thursday 23 August – Sunday 26 August 2012 |

Artist Maeve Clancy has been commissioned by Tall Ships Races Dublin, in association with Dublin City Council Arts Office, to create Paper Quays, a stunning cut-paper installation depicting Dublin’s quayside from the Four Courts to the Custom House. The 25 metre long installation will be viewable in CHQ, throughout the Tall Ships Festival, August 23 – 26th.

Maeve and her small team of helpers have been painstakingly creating this visually captivating and delicate work in her Docklands studio over the past month. The piece explores the section of the quays which plays host to the Liffey Swim each year. The beautiful architecture reflects the city, its stories and history. From Four Courts to Sunlight Chambers, Liberty Hall and Custom House, the Liffey has rich stories to tell. Audiences will be able to walk around the piece, looking through various window viewpoints. A comic strip on the exterior relates some of these Liffey stories and encourages viewers to recall and write down their own.

Maeve, a member of Dublin City Council’s Artist Panel, has already conducted a series of related workshops as part of the Arts Office Children’s Art in Libraries programme in the weeks leading up to the Tall Ships Festival. Local children created their own unique pop-up versions of Tall Ships, which will also be exhibited in CHQ, in a separate area dedicated to family workshops. During the Festival, Maeve will also conduct mini-comic strips and pop-ups workshops. Email tickets@tallships.ie to secure a place.
