LOQUIUM 21
LOQUIUM 21 is this year’s National Sculpture Factory’s online lecture series. For this series we will be looking at alternative commissioning strategies through the experience of artists and their artworks we have commissioned in 2021.
The National Sculpture Factory is a place of production; a place where artworks are always becoming, we are interested here not simply in the finished artworks themselves but the disparate origins of ideas that spur artists to make what they make.
For this year’s Loquium online lecture series we will examine the significant role commissioning can play in the production of new artworks while also looking at how creative curatorial strategies can offer new opportunities for artists to explore and expand their practices. Throughout 2021 we have seen the realisation of a number of new commissioned artworks, across the broadest spectrum of media — a large public neon artwork; a printed publication; an interactive digital artwork; and a new film. In this new on-line lecture series we have invited three artists, Patrick Hough, Leon Butler, Eimear Walshe to reflect on their new commissioned artworks and also to explore the significance of commissioning strategies and how it can benefits their art practices
