Lines of Negotiation: Mapping the Land
A group exhibition curated by Claire Behan @dlrLexIcon Gallery
This exhibition brings together nine artists whose artworks look to and examine ideas associated with the historical, contemporary and cultural readings of the landscape and of land use. Curated by artist Claire Behan with assistance from people who live in or are connected to the Glencullen/Tibradden area, it includes new work by Katherine Atkinson, Bernadette Beecher, Diana Caramaschi, Anne Cradden, Kathryn Maguire, Patricia McKenna, Ida Mitrani, Kiera O’Toole and Nicholas Ryan.
Mountains are regarded as inalienable hallowed land, as if untouched by man but in reality they are alive with human activity. Landscapes are the result of a complex weaving together of natural and environmental factors combined with the impact of our human behaviour, actions and choices. Changes in the landscape reflect the interplay between natural and cultural forces. They are places that are open to many meanings and interpretations, and the work of these artists consider our relationship with, and our influence within, the mountainous landscapes of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County.
The exhibition talks, workshops and performances offer further opportunities to explore and engage with these many different yet connected concepts of landscape.
Lines of Negotiation was commissioned by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
