John Noel Smith: Palimpsest
Opening Reception at 4pm on Saturday 20 October • Opened by art historian Mairead Furlong
A painter of large scale, heavily layered, abstract canvases, John Noel Smith has been described as “a brilliant painter” whose works are “frictions torn from conversations, sometimes shouted, between order and chaos, truth and lies, space and time.’ In the work he has created for Palimpsest, Smith uses the cruciform as a central theme; the sacred and profane mingling in interchangeable and enigmatic ways. John Noel Smith has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, and his works are in most of the major collections in the country including the Arts Council, Bank of Ireland and the OPW.
John Noel Smith is represented in Ireland by Hillsboro Fine Art.
Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm Saturdays from 10am to 4pm
