The World Outside is a new exhibition of paintings by Dublin-based contemporary artist John Fitzsimons, drawn from a close attention to the natural world’s persistent will to endure. Across the exhibition, Fitzsimons turns his focus outward, to the instinctive drive of living things to grow, to reach toward light, to propagate and to connect with one another.

At the heart of the work is a sense of vitality and hope. Structured forms and carefully balanced compositions suggest organisms in motion, reaching, unfurling, multiplying, each part distinct yet bound to the whole, much as living systems in nature depend on both independence and interconnection to thrive.

Fitzsimons channels this energy through a rigorous, considered visual language: ordered geometry and a vivid, sun-warmed palette that echo the cycles of growth and light found in the natural world. Beneath the discipline of the compositions runs a current of optimism, a quiet insistence that life persists, adapts and reaches forward regardless of circumstance.

The World Outside considers this instinct toward survival and connection as a source of hope: a reminder of nature’s enduring will to grow, to reach the light, and to go on.
