Butcher is an exhibition of new paintings and video by Jennifer Mehigan concerned with aesthetics of excess and ‘overkill’, perceptions of queer femme desire, and unrealised teen goth fantasies. The works in the exhibition draw from a disparate range of visual and cultural references, including ancient and popular mythology, sex toys, Neolithic tombs, and cake. Mehigan’s installation incorporates deformed 3D bio-models merged with rocks and fragments of tissue sourced online stretched over unrecognisable found objects, continuing the artist’s interest in creating illegitimate encounters between anonymous virtual producers and the Irish landscape.
Jennifer Mehigan (1988, Cork) is a recent graduate of LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore.
