Janet Murran: Glimmer
Thursday 12 December 2024 – Friday 31 January 2025
Artist’s talk Friday 13 December at 1pm
In Janet Murran’s exhibition, Glimmer you are presented with a collection of paintings ranging in size that documents her exploration of the Ilen river and coastal areas close to her home in West Cork. In this show of river and seascapes you are taken on a journey along green-furred mud flats with barnacle covered stones, up onto cliff edges where wild flowers thrive on almost bare rock, a peek along the cracks and crevices where Sea Anemones and Limpets shelter, a look down into rock pools where creatures live on the edge in the harshest of environments, then it’s up and out to the blue expanse of the rugged Atlantic coastline, wild, untamed, mesmerising.
Inspiration for this body of artworks has come from those small magical, fleeting moments, Glimmers, that Janet encounters on her walks along the coast or her time spent on the Ilen River, the fall of light, a surprise of colour, a distant sound, all influence this artist to create work filled with a deeper understanding and awareness to the wonderful diversity and harmony that is all around her in the natural world.
