James Merrigan: The Truth Spoken as Word

Friday 11 March – Friday 15 April 2011
James Merrigan: After that, love bliss and rapture—rapture love and bliss, film still, 9.4 second loop, with text (Flourish Script font), and audio speech, 2011 | James Merrigan: The Truth Spoken as Word | Friday 11 March – Friday 15 April 2011 | Roscommon Arts Centre

James Merrigan is a mixed-media and video installation artist. He builds environments to display his moving image, sound and text works. For this exhibition, he will frame a selection of video works that he has created over the last two years in a newly fabricated environment. Themes of localness and ritual will be mixed with humour, leaving the audience with crudely cut fractions of a bigger happening. James graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Dun Laoghaire College of Art, Design and Technology (2004), and a Masters of Fine Art, from NCAD (2008). Recently, his work has been exhibited at IMOCA, Dublin, Temple Bar Studios and Gallery and Mermaid Arts Centre. He is the winner of the Irish Residential Studio Award at Red Stables 2010 – 2011.
