Jaki Irvine: Ack Ro’

Tickets €5 here.
What if the only words available to you are to the lyrics from a song? What if everything you would want to articulate must conform to the words of this song?
Ack Ro’ is guided by the rose pink neon lights of Neil Diamond’s Cracklin’ Rosie. Cracklin’ Rosie: a song, a source, a symptom, an anagram. Ack Ro’ , borne of Cracklin’ Rosie. Ack Ro’ : music, noise, pink neon, video. Ack Ro’ occupies cracked spaces of uncertainty. Ack Ro’ draws on noise and music, lost futures and entropy. Ack Ro’ opens out a space to grieve, to rage, to be ok, to not be ok. Ack Ro’ has no objectivity. Ack Ro’ is not scientific. Ack Ro’ : a self undone, prone to contradiction, brokenness, self-erasure, absent minded, inhabiting a world of upheavals and contradictions.
Ack Ro’ : A live performance in the NCAD Gallery on Thursday, January 9, 2020, is performed by artist Jaki Irvine, and musicians Louise Phelan (vocals), Joe O’Farrell (flute), Izumi Kimura (piano), and Sarah Grimes (percussion, drums). With thanks to the Arts Council of Ireland Visual Arts Project Award, the Digital Depot – Digital Hub, and the NCAD Fine Art Artist Residency 2018/19.
