Jacqueline Nicholson: Mark Making
Monday 24 July – Sunday 27 August 2023
Opening Thursday 3 August at 6:30pm
Jacqueline Nicholson’s practice is mainly concerned with mark making. She uses mark making to express feeling and emotion in response to something seen or felt. Her work begins in the subconscious or unconscious mind and develops on the page or canvas. She works straight onto the surface with pen or ink, each mark is left and eventually an image surfaces that Jacqueline is satisfied with.
Mark Making has been labour intensive and some of the pieces have taken 200 hours to complete. It has also been therapeutic in the very nature of the repetition. These marks are abstract in essence. There is a freedom in the marks which set in motion a creative process. She has used these marks as a form of handwriting to develop a way of communicating with the viewer and thereby a space to reflect and create a dialogue between the the work and the spectator.
Jacqueline lives and works in Dublin. She has a BA Hons Degree in Visual Arts Practice and has had several solo exhibitions and been involved in multiple group shows.
