This IRON-R project, led by artist and lecturer James L.Hayes, presents a rare opportunity for visual artists in Ireland to make contemporary artworks through a unique, if nearly obsolete, cast-iron process over a 6-day period. At IRON-R 2 there will be three cupola furnaces and all the artists will be taken through the early sand-moulding stage to molten metal pour to finished work in the space of 6 days. The workshop will be interspersed with talks and guidance from world-renowned professionals with vast experience in cast-iron sculptural practice.
Due to the nature of the project places for IRON-R 2 are limited to a maximum of 12 artists, which will be selected by an independent panel of art practitioners organized by the National Sculpture Factory.
Submissions must include:
1. A Short Biography.
2. Images of previous works (max 5 images)
3. Why you want to do this workshop.
4. What it is you would like to do during the workshop.
All submissions must be sent by e-mail to: info@nationalsculpturefactory.com before the closing date 1:00pm Fri 31st jan 2014
This research project is run in association with CIT/CCAD and the National Sculpture Factory
