Public Art Installation celebrating World Refugee Week

InFlight-OnLanding is a collaborative public art installation by artist Varvara Keidan Shavrova and ten Ukrainian refugee women based in Ireland. The project addresses the human aspect of the crisis caused by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The installation is a parachute-like structure mounted overhead in Meeting House Square, inviting viewers to share in the women’s feelings of suspension and displacement, while also highlighting Ireland as a place of safety and refuge.

Through workshops and masterclasses, the women used traditional Ukrainian folk craft embroidery and photographic silkscreen printing to create a moving representation of the human aspect of the crisis, demonstrating the power of art to promote healing and reflection.
