In a Place in Time: Selected Works from the AIB Collection
In a Place in Time is an exhibition of artwork in various mediums by Irish artists comprising predominantly of previously un-exhibited work from the AIB Collection. The artists and works chosen have been combined to reflect the themes of construction, habitats and movement. This loose thematic offers a diverse exhibition which initiates new dialogues between works from the AIB Collection.
The AIB Collection was started in 1980, under the guidance of Frances Ruane, Art Adviser to AIB Group. The initial premise was to build a Collection which ‘would trace the development of Irish art period that signalled the birth of modernism around 1880 and continuing right up to the present’. This activity was seen a long term project and the bank have continued to support Irish Art Practice through purchases and their annual AIB Prize. This wide ranging Collection now holds over 3000 works, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, drawing, tapestry and prints. The Collection continues to grow acquiring works of both historical and contemporary significance, yet the emphasis has shifted in recent years towards increased support of contemporary artists often those in their early career.
Artists included are; Stephen Brandes, Oliver Comerford, Blaise Drummond, Andrew Folan, Joy Gerard, John Kindness, Alice Maher, Daniel O’Neill, Patrick O’Reilly, Kathy Prendergast, Jamie Saunders, Paul Seawright, and Jonathan Wade.
