Here Comes the Night
Saturday 8 September – Saturday 29 September 2018
The great American Artist, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, is widely credited with adopting the description ‘nocturne’, for visual artworks – rather than music, that is evocative of night. An exceptional etcher, printmaking was a central element of Whistler’s career. This exhibition is a celebration of nocturnes, focused on contemporary printmakers, working at Graphic Studio Dublin. It features a new body of work by selected studio members, Vaida Varnagiene, Mary Grey, Dermot Ryan, Rebecca Phelan, Julie Ann Haines, Ria Czerniak Le Bov, as well as work by Pamela Leonard, Niamh Flanagan, James McCreary, Yoko Akino and work from our Visiting Artists scheme by Martin Gale, Barbara Rae, and Michael Canning.
The exhibition is open late for Culture Night on the 21st of September, with live printmaking demonstrations by some of the exhibiting artists.
