Graphic Studio Dublin 60 Years
Friday 9 September – Sunday 23 October 2022
Founded in 1960 by artists Patrick Hickey, Leslie MacWeeney, Liam Miller, Elizabeth Rivers and Anne Yeats, Graphic Studio Dublin has been an integral part of the Irish visual arts landscape for the past 60 years
The story of Graphic Studio Dublin takes this institution from its origins in a small basement in Upper Mount Street with just an etching press and a litho press, through various temporary premises to its current splendid and well equipped building in Distillery Court on the North Circular Road.
The aim of the founding members was to make the European tradition of fine art printmaking available to Irish artists.
This exhibition, curated by Eithne Jordan, RHA Keeper, showcases a small selection of the prints made in the studio throughout these years of printmaking excellence. Woodblock, mezzotint, etching, silkscreen, lithography, photo–etching, linocut, woodcut, and carborundum prints are represented here in work by past and current members, along with works made through the renowned GSD Visiting Artist programme and other collaborative projects.
It reflects the varied techniques and styles employed by a multitude of artists throughout six decades, a testament to the vision of the founders of Graphic Studio Dublin.
