Gerda Teljeur: Lines, Layers & Light
Lines, Layers & Light, an exhibition of new work by Gerda Teljeur, continues at Stone Gallery, 70 Pearse Street in Dublin 2 until 15 May 2010.
The exhibition is a continuation of the emotionally intense work that Gerda Teljeur has been making for more than a decade, and presents a collection of works on paper; many recent and several developed over a period spanning two years. Due to the intimate nature of the venue’s space, the artist has substituted customary large works on paper for medium and small-scale works. The smallest works mark a new departure through the artist’s explorations into the manipulation of density and space between parallel lines.
Gerda Teljeur came to Ireland in 1967 after studying at the IVKO (now Rietveld Academie) and Normaal School in Amsterdam. She has exhibited widely in both Ireland and The Netherlands, and currently lives and works in County Wexford.
Recent exhibitions include Into Irish Drawing, an exhibition curated by Arno Kramer, which featured twenty-two contemporary artists based in Ireland who specialize in drawing and toured Limerick City Gallery of Art, Civic Arts Centre in The Netherlands, The Irish Cultural Institute in Paris and the Millenium Courts Arts Centre in Belfast in 2009 and early 2010. In 2007, Gerda featured in Surface Tension, an Arts Art Council funded initiative curated by Wexford Arts Centre and presented in Broadstone Studios in Dublin, Source Arts Centre in Thurles and Raheen Community Hospital in County Clare.
