Gavin O’Curry: Recent Paintings

Gavin O’Curry: Recent Paintings | Thursday 5 July – Saturday 28 July 2012 | Peppercanister Gallery

Opening Reception Thursday 5 July, 5:30 – 8pm

Peppercanister Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition by artist Gavin O’Curry. This is the first time for O’Curry to exhibit a solo show at Peppercanister and the show will include recent paintings by this emerging talent. His work was recently featured in 50 Years – Modern Painting exhibition at the gallery.

Diverse in scale these black and white paintings are enigmatic and engaging.

Portraying a filmic quality with a sense of hypnotic duende, Portrait and Landscape form the body of the show and their self-reflective quality make it seem as though the subjects are both there but not there. There is a ghostly ambience to many of the paintings. Historic photographs are but one of the many sources that the artist uses in order to capture these moving and mercurial works. The exhibition is a must see for the month of July. O’Curry is known for creating installations of sculpture and painting and has exhibited extensively in Ireland including The Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin and Dublin Contemporary 2011.
