From Context to Exhibition 2013
Opening Reception Thursday 25 April, 6 – 8pm
A group show from The Learning Development Programme 2013. Managed by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts.
From Context to Exhibition is a contemporary look at how artists seek to translate collaborative processes and practice into the context of the white space. The work presented at the LAB forms part of The Learning Development Programme, an experiential learning programme for student artists in fine art courses who want to engage with communities of place and/or interest and learn more about collaborative arts practice. Each year the student artists work with different communities around Dublin to co create artwork.
The LAB and Create are delighted that the exhibition will be launched by filmmaker and artist Karen Guthrie, who works on independently generated and commissioned projects, alone and in collaboration with Nina Pope as part of their company, Somewhere (www.somewhere.org.uk/). She has also lectured in Fine Art extensively over the last 15 years. She lives and works at Lawson Park, the rural Lake District HQ of innovative arts organisation Grizedale Arts.
This year the students worked with very diverse groups including elective communities of creative writers; lawyers; LGBT groups; a Dublin walking group, people in recovery programmes and the National Council for the Blind of IReland. For more information please visit www.create-ireland.ie
A linked event, The European Learning Network Symposium will take place on 29th May at Wood Quay Venue. The aim of the one day synposium is to explore cross European learning networks and the development needs of artists working in context across Europe.
