Franck Saucian: Little Pieces of the Self | Saturday 14 January – Saturday 11 February 2023 | Regional Cultural Centre

Franck Saucian was born in Martigues, France, in 1970. He studied painting throughout the 1990s in Marseille before moving to County Donegal in 2000.

“I have always had the desire to create. Through the years I have worked with a variety of visual art disciplines. Drawing, painting, graphic design, sculpture, and many different styles. My process is informed by my environment, my experiences, and my innate curiosity. The accumulation of these I refer to as my creative vault. The impetus to create can be triggered by something as simple as a tea stain on a piece of paper.  I don’t question my muse, it comes as day follows night and my response is as automatic as breathing; it is something I must follow as it is essential to my existence.

To put in motion my creative flow, I engage in something called Subjective Drawing/Automatic Drawing. This method is very liberating and enables me to start working even if I do not have a clear idea. It breaks down the ever-terrifying artist’s block. As the piece develops, the creative process is then fuelled by my experiences from the vault. I believe that whatever needs to be expressed finds the way of its own accord through the medium at hand and onto the surface used.

I do not believe it is necessary to explain the Art I create, I believe it has a life of its own and its interpretation is subject to the experiences and purview of the observer. My Art makes sense to me as it happens.  When I finish a piece, all I know with inexorable certainty is the need to start another.”
