Examining Eileen Gray: IMMA Symposium
Tuesday 13 May, 6 – 8pm; Wednesday 14 May, 9:30am – 5pm
In association with Centre Pompidou Paris, IMMA Dublin invites you to an international symposium that examines Eileen Gray’s life, work and legacy, as arguably one of the most influential woman to practise design and architecture of the modernist movement. This symposium investigates the extraordinary achievements by Gray that went unrecognised until her nineties, and focuses on the collaborations and friendships that most shaped her concepts of total design.
In anticipation of the public opening of the restored E1027 villa; acclaimed design historians, critics, architects, collectors, and some of Gray’s close working associates give in depth responses on the methods, philosophy and economics of her distinctive design style, which mark a major shift in aesthetic tastes and theoretical concerns since the 20th Century.
Participating speakers include:
Peter Adam (Filmmaker and Author, Eileen Gray Her Life and Work, Thames and Hudson, 2009)
Daniel Aram (Managing Director of Aram Designs Ltd, London and worldwide License Holder of Eileen Gray designs)
Renaud Barrès (Architect and Director of CAUE, Carcassonne, France)
