Eamon Colman: Harmony in Diversity: Nature’s Circular Dance
Solomon is delighted to present an exhibition of new work by one of Ireland’s most important contemporary painters, Eamon Colman. This new body of work draws inspiration from diversity as an intrinsic quality of nature and invites viewers to reflect on the importance of preserving biodiversity.
In Harmony in Diversity: Nature’s Circular Dance Colman explores the notion of land as an autonomous entity, emphasising the symbiotic relationship between the earth and its inhabitants. Through his use of colour and form, on paper and linen substrates, Colman suggests the cyclical processes that sustain life, contrasting the resilience of biodiverse systems with the fragility of monocultures.
Colman’s paintings serve as a powerful reminder of nature’s intelligence in creating intricate systems that, when undisturbed, offer sustenance and harmony for all living beings. The artist’s thought-provoking works inspire a greater reverence for the environment and a strengthened dedication to safeguarding its delicate balance through his technique of building up paint, creating rough surfaces, and sanding down, to create smooth surfaces where the edges guide the viewer on a non-linear journey.
A new short film about the artist, directed by Kevin Hughes, will be screened here at the gallery on Saturday 7 September at 1pm, followed by a Q&A with artist and director. Space is limited so please pre-book your tickets via Eventbrite HERE. Admission is FREE.
