Des Kenny and Anthony Lyttle: Meander
Graphic Studio Gallery is delighted to announce that the exhibition of recent works by Des Kenny and Anthony Lyttle is reopening on Tuesday 9 June 2020.
The experience of making work for both artists is anchored by a meditative approach – they each create work without preparatory sketches, encouraging the final image to emerge without a pre-conceived idea of it.
Having observed children making art, and the extent to which what they make seems to flow from them, Des Kenny freely applies many layers of colours and shapes, through screen-printing, interweaving his compositions in a playful manner – shapes curve, criss-cross and wander, towards a final outcome that is undetermined, to create a final surface of dazzling colourful motion.
Lyttle is also guided intuitively by his mark making, his large-scale woodblocks scrapped to create compositions that evoke the sense of flow and wander. Labyrinths of shapes, marks and spaces, create the feel of movement. The work of both artists prompts the viewer to embark on a journey, to let your eyes meander, and follow the loops and curves of their making.
