Curator’s Choice: Trish Taylor Thompson
Thursday 1 December – Saturday 31 December 2016
‘Hanami’ is the centuries old traditional Japanese custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers. The cherry blossom or ‘sakura’ inspired this work in the context of one of Puccini’s tragic operas, Madame Butterfly. The short lived season of the sakura mirrors Cio Cio San’s relationship with the protagonist Pinkerton as a story of love, betrayal and tragedy unfolds.
