Curator’s Choice: Deirdre Power
The Curator’s Choice continues for 2016, having formed part of the legacy of the Hunt Museum’s contribution to Limerick City of Culture 2014.
In photography the accepted notion that the camera does not lie has become an accepted, if erroneous cliché. What separates presentation from representation, real or record, from fantasy? I construct photographs that forefront this ambiguity in order to question received notions about identity. The photograph asks us to decide what we are willing to assume, on the basis of outward appearance, about individuals we encounter in the everyday.
