Curator’s Choice: Brian O’Connor
Tuesday 1 November – Wednesday 30 November 2016
Utilitarian high rise in a pastoral setting and political conferences in board rooms inspired me. The impression of the apartment complex and images juxtaposing the passive receptivity of the crowd and the oratorical zeal of the speaker is the work.
Schema 1: Speaker at a Lectern is a painting of Eljeer Hawking, social activist from Harlem, New York, speaking passionately of the Black Lives Matter movement to a crowd in Limerick.
Schema 2; Impression of a Building is an impression of a utilitarian apartment complex in Drumgeely, Shannon.
Schema 3; Audience is a painting of the audience in attendance at Hawkins’ passionate speech.
