Crosscurrents
An exhibition of new collaborative artworks by artists from ArtNetdlr • Curated by Claire Halpin, Artist and Curator
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to present Crosscurrents, an exhibition of new multimedia art works by artists from ArtNetdlr. The exhibition is funded by Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council.
Artists from ArtNetdlr were invited to express their interest in working collaboratively with another artist or artists from a different discipline. They developed collaborative proposals responding to the theme of Crosscurrents. From these proposals, 39 artworks were selected for this exhibition.
The selected artists worked collaboratively for almost a year developing artworks together, responding to and reflecting on the theme of Crosscurrents. For many of the artists this was their first time to work with another discipline and this collaboration opened up a new space for varied responses from artists.
The dynamic tension inherent in the concept of crosscurrents lends itself to exploration across a wide and diverse range of artistic disciplines, form and media. Painting, print, sculpture, drawing, poetry, spoken word, video and multimedia are all included in the exhibition.
For many of the artists, responding to the theme of crosscurrents has prompted an exchange of ideas and an exploration of new materials and processes. They have explored ideas from literal crosscurrents in the sea and oceans, to climate change, environmental concerns, marine ecology; to metaphorical crosscurrents across time and place, exploring themes such as family histories, divine feminine energy, migration and displacement.
