Colin Andrews’ Angel Of Callange is a 2-channel video work and derives from a retracing of the first aerial voyage in Scotland in 1785. The video piece retraces the hot air balloon journey, made by Italian nobleman Vincenzo Lunardi, from the ground and from the sky. Andrews’ says,

“Today, we take flight and travel for granted, but these early aerial voyages had a profound effect on the eighteenth-century imagination. As Lunardi descended into the fields of Callange the labourers, thinking an angel was descending upon them, fled in fear.”

RUA RED is pleased to present both this exhibition and the concurrent exhibition by David Beattie for the first time in Ireland. Karen Phillips, Director, says,

“It’s a privilege to be able to exhibit new works from two such experienced and well respected artists. It is also refreshing to see the galleries used in a different way and to be challenged to use the space in a different way.”
